The Ford Explorer has been manufactured since the 1990's, classified as a midsize SUV until 2010. The Explorer was an indirect, and the Ford Expedition a direct, successor of the iconic Ford Bronco II (which is still for sale from many private owners!). The Ford Explorer was definitely not the first American SUV, but represented the adapting vehicle market, and customer's needs. Unlike its predecessors, the Ford Explorer offered more seating: seven people could comfortably sit with three rows of seating. Older models produced in 2002-2010 had a longer wheelbase and engine power, producing a lower torque ratio. Standard engines ranged from 210 horsepower V6 to a 292 horsepower V8 engine. Each generation of the Ford Escape was improved, including introducing advanced trim levels. Although slightly dated, older models are still great choices as a used vehicle for sale.

In the twenty years since its introduction, the Ford Explorer was reclassified as a full-size crossover SUV in 2011. The difference between older models and newer ones are mainly in the upgraded safety features. Optional safety features for newer models include adaptive cruise control, blind spot and collision warning systems, and automatic parallel-parking system. The upgraded technology and cabin features on the Ford Explorer make it a great choice for someone who wants a lot of features without paying the cost for a luxury vehicle: climate controlled front seats, heated steering wheel, a panoramic glass roof, navigation system, and a kick-open tailgate.
