Since WWII thousands of Military Working Dogs (MWDs) and Contract Working Dogs (CWDs), have bravely served our country in areas of operation providing unmatched life-saving capabilities. Collectively, they are called "War Dogs". They have risked their lives, sustained injury and have died valiantly protecting our troops, civilians and freedoms at home and abroad. They are ever watchful of danger and their loyalty is unsurpassed.
After adopting their first war dog Carlos… Ruby and Wade Ridpath made it their mission to create a memorial "to honor the devotion and selfless sacrifice of all war dogs and, be a place of reflection for those who have served with and whose lives were saved by these amazing "heroes with fur". For generations to come, this Memorial will stand to honor the War Dogs that are truly, our "Forgotten Heroes".
Mark Barton, General Manager of Phil Long Ford of Motor City in Colorado Springs heard about the Colorado War Dog Memorial and immediately knew this was something of great importance to the community and the soldiers who serve with these 4-legged war buddies. Phil Long Ford of Motor City officially entered into a partnership with the War Dog Memorial on January 29th, 2016. They have committed to not only raise awareness for the memorial, but to contribute funds to help reach the War Dog Memorial goal of $200,000. Recently the City of Colorado Springs Parks Advisory Board approved the location of the war dog memorial which will be in Memorial Park in Colorado Springs. The approved site will be in the Ring of Honor with other Veteran Memorials representing all branches of our Military.
